Good afternoon Effort family. I hope that you will join with me in prayer for a snow-free weekend! It’s been a while since I’ve given you a mission update so here are a few missions moments that your support of Chili Night made possible.

I think about our mission reach from the standpoint of Acts 1:8 where scripture commands us, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” In other words, we are called to minister to those in our own town, region, nation, and to those around the world.

I’m excited to announce that we are partnered with Habitat for Humanity to better minister to those in our own town. We are kicking off a critical home repair ministry in 2018 and are blessed to put over $4000 towards the repair of homes in our community. This ministry is primarily aimed at seniors who don’t have the funds or family to do these repairs for them.

We are also making an impact in our region. As many of you know, our Young at Heart group is focused on a ministry to the Fluvanna Women’s Correctional Facility. They collect cards and toiletry items all year long to distribute to the women. This past Thursday, I was blessed to accompany them to the prison for the distribution of these gifts. It was a truly incredible experience as we handed out over 1000 of these gifts. You wouldn’t think that these basic supplies would have the kind of impact that they do, but I saw some of these women moved to tears by this basic act of kindness. Thank you YaH for your leadership in ministering to our community!

Finally, we’ve had some opportunities to bless our international partners. At our last missions committee meeting we were able to send $5000 for scholarships to the Lott Carey School in Liberia. Aside from ushering a person into relationship with Jesus, education is the best way to help kids break cycles of poverty and improve their lives. I love that Effort is so supportive of helping these kids further their education.

We were also able to provide some financial blessings to two of our partner missionaries. Many of you know Beckie Bagby who is preparing to go back to Uganda to help build and run a children’s medical clinic. You may also remember Zach Slagel who spoke to us this past summer about his missionary work in Cambodia. We were able to give each $1000 to help support their work to spread God’s word overseas.

I know this is a little bit longer than usual, but I get excited about opportunities to support God’s mission! Thank you for making these ministries possible.

Grace & Peace,
Ben
