Effort Family,
There’s a buzz in the church office and around campus. I know what you’re thinking: no, we didn’t get a new Keurig coffee maker.
We’re gearing up for VBS. It’s that time of year again where we get to make a lasting, possibly lifetime impact on God’s children. Not only that, but these children who get to learn about Jesus in a way they understand often tell their friends and family about who God is.
If you’ve been hanging around churches long enough you may feel jaded about VBS. It’s often compared to yet another summer kids camp. But friends, I want to challenge us to dig deeper.
We can go through the motions and babysit hundreds of kids a month from now, or we can set our sights on the Kingdom, and be a physical representation of Jesus in these kids’ lives. As hard as it is to hear, the fact is, many of these children have not-so-perfect home lives, and we’re the highlight of their summer. They get to come to church, have a blast, and be loved in a way they can break through depression, insecurity and discouragement. We can make a lasting difference. We can be the hands and feet of Jesus.
As you may have heard, we still need volunteers. If you feel a stirring in your heart, give us a call at the church office (434-589-8962), stop by the office, email us at communications@effortchurch.org (mailto:communications@effortchurch.org) , or see a staff member on Sunday. There’s also a VBS volunteer training session on Tuesday, May 28 from 6:30 – 8 PM. We’d love for you to partner with us.
If physically serving is not in the cards for you this year, you can still help. Be in prayer in anticipation of a great God-filled experience for these kids, and for the profound resurrection power of Jesus to be present amongst our volunteers and leaders. We thank you in advance for the prayer support.
