Dear Church,

After much prayerful discernment, I believe that God is calling me into a new assignment as the Chaplain of Fork Union Military Academy. In these recent days, God has clearly called and directed our steps into this new endeavor.

In hindsight, I realize that God has been stirring my spirit in this way for a while. God has taught me many lessons over the past several years but one of the most pervasive is that we need a generation of Christian leaders who can reshape our culture through their influence. It is out of that stirring in my spirit that I understand and embrace this new assignment.

It is, however, bittersweet. In the nearly twenty years that Stephanie and I have been married, this is the first place that has truly become home. We cherish the friendships that we have built at Effort and are incredibly grateful for the many ways that you have loved us. However, I cannot lead you to follow the will of God if I am not willing to be obedient in my own life. Therefore, we have said yes to this new calling and our last Sunday here at Effort will be July 4th.

As clearly as God has been with me, I am confident that God is going to take care of His church. Effort is a great church with a great leadership team. I know that the Council and staff are in prayer for direction for the congregational conversations to come.
