Matt Boschen
Senior Pastor
Pastor Boschen and his family joined the church family at Effort in December of 2022. Boschen is a lifelong Virginian; he was born and raised in Ashland VA. He went to Hampden-Sydney College for undergraduate school and Union Presbyterian Seminary for his MDiv. He started serving in churches in 2011 and has loved every minute of helping people follow Jesus. His wife Ashley also holds an MDiv from Union, she “mastered divinity first” and has served in churches since 2010. Together they have three boys, Edward, Walton, and Theodore. As a family, they love hosting, cooking, and hiking. They are thrilled to spread the hope, grace, joy, and peace of Jesus to Fluvanna county and beyond.

Matt O'Rear
Worship Pastor
Pastor O'Rear’s life was once defined by addiction and hardship, but is now defined by marvelous grace, restoration, and redemption. He started vocational ministry in 2012 as a part-time worship leader, but over the past decade has grown to see himself as a Pastor who happens to play music. He is nearing the end of his pursuit of his MDiv at Fuller Theological Seminary and has received undergraduate education from NYU, Berklee College of Music, and Southeastern University. He’s blessed to journey through life together with his wife, Kristin, and son, Benjamin. Matt coordinates all things worship, technology, and discipleship at Effort Church. Matt loves leading worship, but finds no greater joy than leading people to grow closer to Christ through personal investment. Above all else, his personal mission is to make disciples who make disciples.

Kelsey Payne
Youth Minister/Student Missions Area Coordinator
Kelsey's family moved to Fluvanna shortly after she was born and they've been part of the Effort family ever since. After high school she attended James Madison University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies and Political Science in 2021.
Kelsey's prayer is to help tether the youth more closely with the church body and community, creating a lasting network of "discipling disciples" equipped to go out into their schools, neighborhoods, and homes, sharing the word and love of the Lord wherever they go.

Natalee McRoberts
Children's Minister
Miss Natalee and her husband, Kevin, moved to Charlottesville, VA, in July 2004 and quickly found a home at Effort Baptist Church, where they grew from a family of 3 to a family of 5 and she got her first chance to help in Children's Ministry at VBS! Her 3 children, Shiona, Kiley, and Gus, all attended Effort Christian School for both Preschool and School.
Miss Natalee went on to teach Elementary Music Appreciation at Effort Christian School through 2017, while homeschooling her own children. She received her BA in English from the Pennsylvania State University in 2000 and has been blessed with many different opportunities, from being a mainframe programmer to teaching children to running a forklift! Miss Natalee believes we are all blessed with many different gifts and that we can all share God's love - no matter where life takes us!

Sarah Black
Communications Director
Sarah was born and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia, and graduated from Albemarle High School in 2003. After moving to Lake Monticello, she became a licensed real estate agent and, soon after, transitioned to marketing and communications. Her journey of growing up in the church has profoundly shaped her life. It has allowed her to lead VBS classes, travel with youth groups, and sing in the church choir, all of which have enriched her faith and community involvement. As a Christian, she is excited to blend her faith with her professional journey at Effort Church. Her favorite way to unwind is reading novels, writing her own, or making memories with her family.
