This One Thing I Ask of The Lord
It was King David who said, "This one thing I ask of the Lord, this one thing I seek: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate within His holy temple." (Psalm 27:4)
I suspect all of us want to live in the house of the Lord eventually, but I doubt we are homesick ... unless, of course, David is talking about something more than heaven as a place you go when you die. I hope to be with God someday for all eternity, but I enjoy my life here on earth, and I hope to celebrate it for years to come. Yet, I also long to live in the great house of God, morning and night, forever and ever. Oh, how I pray that we all long to dwell in that most holy temple, for to live in God's house is to live united with the One who can fill us with the power to overcome our brokenness. Remind us, God, that our hearts are not meant to be spiritual hovels. Our hearts are to become part of the great temple of Jehovah. Grant, O Lord, that we might dwell at home with our Father every minute of every day. Infuse us with our Father's love, so that we may live as a people whose outward behavior is a reflection of the home God is building within our hearts.
Amen.
