Our Yoke, His Yoke?
"Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden light." In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus spoke these words as he was preaching and teaching in Galilee. How many times do we find ourselves carrying a yoke that seems so heavy? Maybe even carrying a yoke that appears to have the name of Jesus on it? If our yokes seem too heavy, it can not be the yoke Jesus intended us to carry. This could be the yoke of the world - their expectations of us, their demands of us, or our own worldly desires and expectations. When we follow Jesus and learn from him, we still carry a yoke, but it is not heavy and burdensome. Our yoke becomes light, because we are partnering with the Creator of the universe to fulfill His mission. In this we will find peace and rest, as well as purpose and energy.
