Worship Music vs. The Radio - Fight!
If you're like me, you enjoy a wide variety of music styles. It might be alternative, folk, country, classic rock... who knows what will end up on my dial. Whenever I'm behind the wheel, I find myself flipping to a number of stations on the radio to match my mood.
That being said, I understand the importance of keeping worship music in my life - that's just what works for me. I find that the more good, uplifting things I put in my head, the more good, uplifting things seem to come out of me. Rocket science, I know!
Philippians 4:8 from the Message translation says...
8-9 Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious-the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse...Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.
I strive to strike a balance between radio and worship music. The important thing to know is that I don't always listen to the songs we play in church - there is worship suited to the corporate style of "let's sing together", and then there's music meant to just soak in and listen to by yourself.
When by myself, I often find myself listening to bands like All Sons & Daughters, Gungor, Will Reagan, and Rend Collective for the folky cool kind of uplifting, worshipful music. In my personal time worshipping God, my worship style leans toward more repetitive prayer type songs with acoustic guitars. That may not be you; you may prefer a totally different type of worship!
So go on a hunt for worship music that isn't on the radio, that suits you. Services like Spotify (an app/program) help me do that. You might just find some music that speaks to your soul, and find a place where you meet God in a new way!
What I'm listening to now:
