Council meeting tonight (8/26) was interesting.
Preliminary presentation of next year’s budget by Ted Bruning of Finance. Seems like we are in pretty good condition for the condition we’re in. (70’s rock reference there, if you missed it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AULOC–qUOI)
The school is closed down for Thursday and Friday due to some COVID positives in both students and teacher. We are following Virginia Health Department guidelines and VHD is doing contact tracing. No impact so far on church services.
The School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) head had proposed setting up a ‘Little Free Library’ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Free_Library) on church grounds. Concerns were expressed about public access during school hours and control over what materials might be placed in the box and who would monitor what was in it. Council did not approve the concept. An alternative was proposed where the boxes would be in the lobbys of the Sanctuary and FLC. There were still concerns over monitoring the content but further consideration was proposed.
In the matter of the Senior Pastor Search, it was stated that the Council had unanimously approved the use of the consultant agency ( Center for Healthy Churches) in the search. Council Chair Rob Jones will present some talking points during the church services this Sunday. The next step will be a kickoff meeting with present and prospective Council members in the next few weeks.
Next regularly scheduled Council meetings are 9/9 and 9/23.
