The Communicator – Council 11/11/2021

Well, I’m late getting this out, but the Council meeting was again an interesting one. To me, at least.
— Chairman Rob noted that the Council would be trying to operate more within Robert’s Rules of Order to try to streamline the meeting process.
–It was noted, and celebrated, that John Rhea has agreed to compile the results of the Congregational Meetings and create the profile documents needed for the Pastoral Search process.
— Minutes for the previous meeting were approved and have been uploaded to the website.
— A procedure to decide on a replacement Council member is to be developed by Nov. 18.
— A procedure for selection of members of a Pastor Search Committee was presented. There are to be 8 Congregant members, ideally with diverse perspectives. They will be identified by 21 November and to be approved by the first Council meeting in December. Plan was approved by unanimous vote.
— With the approach of the holiday season it was questioned whether the travel policy was still relevant/functional. After discussion, Coucil voted to strike the single line which constituted the travel policy and assigned to the Personnel Committee to develop new language applicable to any restrictions. Personnel to provide new language to Council before Thanksgiving and Council to approve by email vote.
— Pastor Matt provided a proposal to run an experiment of single services during the Nov. 28 – Jan. 9 time.
– – – Impetus is the reaction to the single service done for the baptism Sunday. Reaction reported to staff has been uniformly positive, largely of the form of ‘why aren’t we doing this already?’
– – – – – – – Moving to single service will relieve the strain on the number of volunteers required to support technical needs of the services.
– – – – – – – The holiday season is a common one to change services.
– – – – – – – After the time of experiment there would be a time of evaluation to determine what was good, what was not.
– – – A Council member reported that not all reaction has been positive.
– – – – – – – The negative reactions need to fed to the staff.
– – A motion was presented to try the experiment Nov. 28 to Jan. 9 at 10AM with official review after Jan. 9. We will revert to two services after Jan. 9. Vote passed 4 – 1.
– – – Experiment will be announced via Pulse, from Pulpit, and by mail.
