Council Meeting 04282022

It was a fairly lengthy but interesting meeting. The Council Members and a few participants were present in person in the Sanctuary Fellowship (YAH) Room. Others were present by Zoom. Seemed to work pretty well both ways.

Opened with prayer by Rachel Besecker at 7 PM. Rob Jones chaired the meeting. A couple members drifted in a few minutes late but by the time business was being conducted, the entire Council was present.

Some tidbits from:-:

Committee reports:
Nominating – Developing a Talent Survey for the membership.
Finance – We have been negotiating with our bank concerning refinancing our mortgage, since we have a balloon payment due in November. Originally negotiations seemed to be going well but recently they have been delaying execution. Negotiations have begun with another bank as backup.
– Budget is being compiled in anticipation of the new June Fiscal Year. We do, however, have a budget that is approved thru September, so it is not critical that the new budget be presented before June. It should be delivered to Council next week.
Building & Grounds – the newly reconstituted committee has developed a new charter and submitted it to Council for consideration. 9 persons, each with a specialty and a notebook indicating who knows about what.
Deacons – Seeking signups for Fellowship/Hospitality support.

Staff reports:
Family Ministry – Baptism next month. VBS planning underway. Youth have become involved with ECAM.
Administrator – Conducting mortgage refinance negotiations. Unexpected sewer repair required. Staff has planned sermons thru Aug 28. Larry & Candy Wakefield have completed membership training.
School Director – 6 school families have started attending church and have indicated desire to become involved in church activities. IPR was a success.

In Progress Review Presentation.
There was a rather thorough (and lengthy) presentation on the results of the In Process Review of the School operations. There were 4 recommendations resulting from the review.

1. DIRECT ADMINISTRATOR TO TERMINATE THE TRAILER CONTRACT AT END OF CURRENT CONTRACT PERIOD
2. APPROVE REAL ESTATE PLAN (SLIDES 9&10) — MOVES TO OCCUR WEEK OF MAY 23
3. APPROVE DIRECTOR’S PROPOSAL TO PURSUE K-3 FOR SY 22-23
4. DIRECT CHURCH STAFF TO PROVIDE RECOMMENDED SUPPORT TO THE EBC SCHOOLS

Council’s response was (to the best of my memory): Approve 1. and 3. Amend 4. to show approval of support presently being provided by staff and that it should continue. Approve the concept of 2. but expressed concern about the logistic possibility of accomplishing by May 23. School Director offered Aug 10 as being another reasonable logistic goal and Council appeared to consider that more attainable. A group will be formed to design the logistic process to achieve the goal in a phased process.

Meeting was dismissed with prayer by Nate Brown.
